- The story of Paul the Elwetritsch -

"I suddenly woke up in this cave."

"What's going on here? Where am I? Who am I?"

Character: Funny, shy, close to nature, outspoken, clumsy, animal friendly

Paul is a funny little bird, more precisely: an Elwedritsch. He's open-hearted and a little clumsy. He likes to explore nature with his big goggly eyes.

Origin of Paul the Elwedritsch

Thousands of years ago, birdlike creatures got lost in a dense jungle and were saved from a fierce storm by forest goblins and elves. The two different tribes got along well and could learn a lot from each other. As the bird creatures stayed with the goblins and elves for longer and friendship grew, they decided to stay together forever and start a new breed.

This created a new, fantastic people, called the "Elwedritsch".

It should also be noted that numerous subspecies have emerged in the course of evolution, which may differ significantly from the original breed. Tradition has it that there are ancient stories of a Nordic tribe of the Dritsch, who are said to have descended not from elves but from forest goblins and have more the appearance of a polecat. Ancient legends even speak of Dritsch with the appearance of a vulture, which could be attributed to the southern tribes.

Our local Elwetritsch adapted perfectly to the conditions of the forest and the vineyards and built a functioning infrastructure. They built their shelters in hidden rock caves and underground tunnels several meters deep, leaving them unnoticed to humans. Many centuries of carelessness and happiness passed so that these joyful creatures seemed to disappear from human memory.

Nobody seemed to remember the secret existence of the Elwedritsch anymore. Only a small group of initiated poachers hunt the Elwedritsch, because their beaks and tails promised eternal youth and thus immortality.

Tradition has it that at one point the ancient king of the Elwetritsch hid the egg, from which Paul would later hatch, in a magical cave, when he heard from a messenger that the poachers had discovered their secret location and now went to hunt the rare creatures.

Countless years passed, an ice age came and went, it warmed again and still nothing stirred in this egg. Until one day, caused by the magical radiation of a blood moon, the egg got bigger and bigger and a small, funny bird creature burst from its shell and hatched.

Habitat of the Elwetritsch

The people of the Elwetritsch feel most at home in pristine forests with sandstone rocks and in vineyards.

Dense undergrowth and vines provide the best conditions for building their nests.

Furthermore, they are comfortable just about anywhere, wherever they are, as long as they can remain undisturbed and unnoticed.

Many of their tribes are found in sunny areas where the vines grow and on rock formations.

They are described as calm, social and friendly creatures. Their big festival takes place once a month on a full moon. Then a large exuberant party is held for a week to which all forest residents are invited. They dance, eat, drink and above all laugh.

An Elwetritsch eats a vegetarian diet, preferably seeds, mushrooms, carrots, wild berries and wine grapes.

Since there are different spellings of the mythical creature from the Palatinate region, we have decided to write Elwedritsch and Elwetritsch alternately to ensure a balance between the two terms.
